Merging building and sculpture Iraqi/English architect Zaha Hadid has created a fascinating extension to the Ordrupgaard Museum.
The Ordrupgaard Museum north of Copenhagen is home to one of the finest collections of Impressionist art outside of France. The museum was originally built as a private residence and thus with time came the need for a larger and more up-to-date setting for the collection.
Zaha Hadid has taken the surrounding park as her point of departure in creating an organic building, which interacts ideally with the park and historic museum buildings while at the same time moving the museum into a new era.
Realdania has funded the construction with approx. EUR 1.3 million.
The building client is Ordrupgaard Museum which is under the Danish Ministry of Culture.
