In Nørrebro, it is business as usual – traditional workers live side by side with students, left wing activists, and immigrant families from all over the world. The famous hood is as always a diverse mix of styles and atmospheres, but in the years to come one of the neighbourhoods on the edge of Nørrebro will be transformed into three remarkable and attractive zones with brand new possibilities for active city life.

From the main road, Nørrebrogade, to Tagensvej, which marks the border of Nørrebro, runs a narrow path for cyclists and pedestrians with a green verge. Here, Superkilen (litt: The Super Wedge) will  transform the somewhat anonymous area into an activity space with three zones, each identified by a colour and offering unique opportunities:

The Red Square is adjacent to Nørrebrohallen, where ball games and badminton are played every day. As an extension of the life of the sports centre, the square will offer various types of courts where you can meet for a game of friendly hockey, an informal football match or other city sports. Through comprehensive renovation and development, Nørrebrohallen becomes the Sports and Culture Centre of the future. Buzzing and filled with a constant flow of sports, leisure and culture activities, Nørrebrohallen will be opened up towards Superkilen.

The Green Park is designed as a social meeting point, where people can get together whether it is sunny or snowing. Here, the soft hills will act as ‘patios’ for kindergartens on an outing and families on a picnic. In the evenings, young people will have the chance to meet by the kissing benches, while pensioners will meet in the special activity park for the elderly. Nørrebro, which has so little nature, will gain a green oasis.

The Black Square will see people crowding in on weekends to get a taste of Nørrebro's new outdoor market, where shopkeepers offer enticing goods from all over the world. During workdays this area will house anything from exhibitions and festivals to improvised get-togethers at chess boards and reading corners. Superkilen is designed by architectural firm BIG in collaboration with Superflex, Heine Petersen, HELP Kommunikation and Topotek1 from Germany. The project is carried out by the Partnership, which was established by The Municipality of Copenhagen and Realdania in 2004. The Partnership cooperates with the area renewal project in the Mimersgade neighbourhood.
